Keep your vertical blinds looking fresh, dust-free and operating smoothly with our simple cleaning guide.

Whether you have fabric, PVC or blackout vertical blinds, this step-by-step guide will help you clean them safely and effectively.

Vertical blinds are practical, stylish and perfect for larger windows and patio doors — but like any window covering, they collect dust over time.

How to Dust Vertical Blinds

What You’ll Need:

  • Microfibre cloth or duster
  • Vacuum with soft brush attachment

Method:

  1. Fully close the blinds so the slats lie flat.
  2. Gently dust from top to bottom – Always dust vertically to avoid creasing fabric
  3. For a more thorough clean, use a vacuum with a brush attachment.
  4. Rotate the slats and repeat on the other side.

How to Clean Vertical Blinds (Fabric)

Fabric blinds require a little more care. For light stains:

  1. Mix warm water with a small amount of mild detergent.
  2. Dampen a clean cloth (do not soak it).
  3. Gently blot the stain — avoid rubbing.
  4. Allow to air dry fully before rotating the blinds.

For bigger stains, it is usually very easy to replace individual slats at a low cost. Long-term, you can swap out all the fabric slats while keeping the same blinds system.

How to Clean PVC or Vinyl Vertical Blinds

PVC and vinyl vertical blinds are moisture-resistant and easier to clean:

  1. Remove dust first.
  2. Wipe each slat with a cloth dipped in warm, soapy water.
  3. Rinse with clean water.
  4. Dry with a soft towel to prevent watermarks.

Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive sponges, as these can scratch or dull the surface.

Cleaning the Headrail and Mechanism

Don’t forget the top track:

  • Use a vacuum with a nozzle attachment.
  • Wipe the headrail with a dry cloth.
  • If movement feels stiff, ensure there’s no dust build-up.
